DR. TOM GAGE
YOUTH PLATFORM COMMITTEE CO-CHAIR

Dr. Tom Gage, Professor Emeritus in English at Humboldt State University, earned all his degrees at the University of California, Berkeley. As teacher, dean and consultant, his career includes working at the elementary, secondary, and tertiary levels in private and public education.

He is the Founding Director of two Writing Projects: Redwood Writing Project and the Hoopa Native American Writing Project. The Redwood Writing Project is the second oldest site of the National Writing Project. In addition, he has run in-service training of writing teachers in Athens, Istanbul, and Nanning, China. In Athens in 1984 the teachers came from schools from Morocco to Bangladesh.

Dr. Gage was also charter member on the board of directors of the Consultants for Global Programs, a California NEO in its second decade of international programs.

DR. GREGORY R. WEIHER
YOUTH PLATFORM COMMITTEE CO-CHAIR

Dr. Gregory Weiher is professor of political science and the chair of Political Science department at the University of Houston.

He received his Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis in 1984, and joined the faculty of political science at the University of Houston in that same year. He has been the Director of the Center for Public Policy at UH (1991-1995), and Director of the Graduate Program in Public Administration (2007-2008). His primary fields of interest are the politics of education, urban politics, and political theory.

He has published articles in the Journal of Politics, Western Political Quarterly, Urban Affairs Quarterly, State Politics and Policy Review, Journal of Public Policy and Management, Social Science Quarterly, Review of Policy Research, and American Politics Quarterly. His Fractured Metropolis: Political Fragmentation and Metropolitan Segregation won a Gustavus Myers Center "Outstanding Book on Human Rights" award in 1992.
